Quick Weight Management Tips (Part 3): Grocery and Social Events

Making a few simple lifestyle changes can result to an effective weight loss strategy. The key is to maintain our focus and keep up with perseverance, stick to the plan and devote a certain degree of effort to shed off the extra fat consistently.

The part 3 of our Quick Management Tips Series give focus to one of the things we probably pay “less blame” to weight gain but our behaviour here is reflective of our total fitness.

At the GroceryQuick Weight Management Tips (Part 3): Grocery

  • Do not shop when hungry or tired.

  • Shop from a list and avoid buying anything that is not on the list.

  • If you must have tempting food, buy individual-sized packages and try to find a lower-calorie alternative.

  • Don’t taste test in the store.

  • Read food labels; compare products to help you make the healthiest choices.

 Attending Social Events

  • Do not arrive hungry. Eat something light before the event’s meal.

  • Try to fill up on low-calorie food such as vegetables and fruits.

  • Eat smaller portions of the high-calorie food.

  • Eat what you like but choose small shares.

  • If you want seconds, wait at least 20 minutes after you have eaten to see if you are actually hungry or if you eyes are bigger than your stomach.

  • Limit alcoholic beverages. Try a soda water with a twist of lime.

  • Do not skip other meals in the day to save room for the special planned meals.

Quick Weight Management Tips (Part 2): Eating

Here is the part 2 of the Quick Weight Management Tips Series on Behavior Modification. This time we focus on eating.

Eat slowly. Remember it takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to send a message to your brain that it is full.  Don’t let fake hunger make you think you need more. The ideal way to eat is to take a bite, put your utensils down, take a sip of water, cut your next bite, take a bit, put your utensil down and so on.

Also remind yourself not to cut all the food on the plate at one time and cut only as needed. Take small bites and chew slowly. Stop eating for a minute or two at least once during a meal or snack. Take breaks to reflect and have conversation. 


  • Explore low-fat, low-cholesterol cookbooks.

  • Use single-serving food like chicken breasts or hamburger patties.

  • Prepare low-calorie appetizers and desserts.

 Friend’s House 

  • Offer to bring a dish, appetizer or dessert that is low in calories.

  • Serve yourself small portions or tell the host that you only want a small amount.

  • Stand or sit away from the snack table. Stay away from the kitchen or stay busy if you are near the food.

  • Limit your alcohol intake.


  • Order à la carte rather than buffet style.

  • Order some vegetables or a salad for an appetizer instead of eating bread.

  • If you order a high-calorie dish, share it with someone.

  • Try an after dinner mint with your coffee. If you do have dessert, share it with two or more people.

  • Don’t overeat because you do not want to waste food. Ask for a doggie bag to take extra food home.

  • Tell the server to put half of your entree in a to-go bag before the meal is served to you.

  • Ask for salad dressing, gravy or high-fat sauces on the side.

  • Dip the tip of your fork in the dressing before each bite.

  • If bread is served, ask for only one piece. Try it plain without butter or oil. At Italian restaurants where oil and vinegar is served with bread, use only a small amount of oil and a lot of vinegar for dipping.

Zerona Body slimming: The Relaxing way to lose weight

ANYBODY who had tried to do crunches knows how difficult it can get, in addition to the potential strain in your neck and back, just to get rid of those pesky abdonimal flabs. There are body parts that are simply more problematic, and it takes a little extra effort to keep them in shape.

Like most people, you don’t have the luxury of time to devote on maintaining an exercise routine. The sound of a steel tube vacuuming your fats probably sends shivers down your spine. With exercise and liposuction out of the question, what does that leave you?

The answer, says Dr. Claudine Roura, is Zerona, a non-invasive procedure that makes use of low-level laser to essentially melt the fats until they get absorbed by lymphatic system and eventually make their way out of the body. Alongside other guidelines, patients who undergo the procedure can expect a combined loss of 3 to 9 inches from the waist, hips, thighs, and other problem body parts.

“The liquefied fat moves from inside the cell through a temporary pore formed in the cell membrane to outside the cell where it is in the interstitial space until absorbed by the lympathic system. This results in millions of fat cells becoming smaller so inches are reduced off the waist, hips and thighs. The fat cells are not injured in any way by this process,” Dr. Claudine adds.

It can be used on every part of the body where localized fat deposits exist, particularly the stubborn ones that seem immune to diet and exercise. This includes the waist, hips, thighs, upper arms, inner knees, and the buttocks.

Zerona also boasts of additional advantages compared to other similar procedures. For instance, during the 40-minute session, a patient only needs to sit back and relax while the attending physician positions the laser at the desired body part. As it is completely painless, a patient is free to do anything he or she likes, such as read, listen to music, or just relax.

Once through, there is no surgical wound that will need to heal before a patient continues with his or her normal life. There is absolutely no downtime, says Dr. Claudine, and there is no discomfort, swelling or other unwarranted symptoms whatsoever.

The “recommended lifestyle protocol” ideally includes six sessions, without exceeding 72 hours in between treatments, in order to fully maximize its effects. If more than 72 hours—or 3 days—passes between appointments, there is a possibility of some of the fat being reabsorbed by the fat cells.

If followed, the whole thing can be over in as little as a couple of weeks, during which time the patient can do essentially anything, except ingest alcohol and caffeine, so stay away from coffee and beer for the meantime. On the other hand, patients are advised to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water, eat healthy, and walk at least 30 minutes a day.

Like all medical procedures, however, it is not advisable to undergo Zerona if a patient is pregnant. Morever, its effects might considerably be less in cases of diabetes or thyroid disorders. As with anything, it is best to consult with your doctor before jumping into anything.

For her part, Dr. Claudine thinks the Zerona treatment is perfect for two types of people: those that are already following a healthy diet and lifestyle and just want to correct particular problem areas, and those who need a jump-off point to continue with their slimming regimens.

With the holiday season just around the corner, the unwanted pounds will surely come, thanks to the sinful diet-destroyers that will fill our tables. To those of us who want things done extra quick and extra effective, there is the Zerona treatment.
